November 5th, 2018 would have been Charles Bradley’s 70th birthday. In celebration of his extraordinary life, we present you with his fourth and final album, Black Velvet, a collection of 10 songs by the late great Screaming Eagle of Soul, all appearing on album together for the first time and lovingly assembled by his friends and family at Dunham/Daptone Records.
To commemorate what would have been his 70th birthday and celebrate the release of Black Velvet, please join us next week for a night of music and love on both the East and West coasts in Charles’ honor.
Wick Records is honored to release the sophomore long player from Virginia’s Troglodytic Troubadours, the group with the antediluvian je ne sais quoi: The AR-KAICS!
The debut solo-single from The Dap-Kings sax-man and long-time Daptone Family fixture, the peerless player with palpable provenance, Cochemea Gastelum! Recorded entirely in his humble bedroom studio, Cochemea masterfully blends the drum-machine-laden soul-explorations of artists like Shuggie Otis and Sly Stone, with the avant-garde, electric sax permutations of Eddie Harris.
Exclusively for Daptone Authorized Dealers (no web shop on this one), this limited edition single features two instrumental monsters from the “Baddest Band in the Land,” The Dap-Kings. The A side, tracked during the sessions for Sharon Jones’ last long player, Soul of a Woman, “Tear it Down” is a psychedelic soul groover that features background vocals by Sharon Jones, and Saun & Starr (watch the video here, in case you missed it). On the flip you find “The Collection Song,” a long-time Dap-Kings instrumental that the group has used to warm up crowds all across the globe. A fan favorite for our favorite shops! Check our authorized dealers list or ask at your local record store.

Wick Records is pleased to present another platter that matters, by Queens’ County’s newest instrumental sensations… Introducing! T. Benny and the Buzz Brothers. The tape from said session was sent to Daptone HQ with only a small note that said: “For Wick – Conceived at a smokey late-night session at (the famed) Diamond Mine Studio, in Long Island City.” No information about the musicians or personnel was shared, but upon hearing we promptly called Diamond Mine to exclaim “WE WANT THIS RECORD!”
